How To Use Social Media For Your Business

An Interview With Easidesigns' Clement Yeung

One of the leading lights of using social media as an innovative business tool today. Clement Yeung shares with us his fascinating insights on the changes that are affecting small and medium-sized businesses today.

What was your original motivation in starting easidesigns & easisell?

Being in employment was like slave labor. I had aspirations that could not be met by a 9-5.

In fact, I disliked it so much that I'd already left my job before I started planning easidesigns. After figuring out I'd made a mistake by offering only design services, I started Easisell as a way to increase cut down competition and increase profit margins.

How have social media tools helped YOU in your career?

For easisell, about 90% of my business is generated through social media and word of mouth - a by-product of effective social media marketing.

The cash cost for all of this? Close to nothing. This helps me invest money into other areas of the business such as research and development.

Because of social media, I've been able to start numerous internet-based businesses in various niche markets that continue to go from strength to strength.

Who's the leading expert on social media today? Why?

I don't think that one person can be awarded the title of "thought-leader" encompassing social media as a whole - it's much more complex.

If I had to choose a role model, I'd choose Mike Stelzner. I've had the pleasure of seeing him grow as a social media expert since I last interviewed him around a year ago.

Already known as the industry leader in writing White Papers, he's since established quite a name for himself with sites like www.socialmediaexaminer.com. I admire his thirst for knowledge and passion for building strong relationships. Every day I learn something invaluable from the guy.

In YOUR online profile, you keep saying YOU'RE a human and animals rights supporter with a wicked sense of humor – what does the wicked sense of humor mean? Give us an example.

"The Onion News" is my favorite comedy source. If that doesn't clarify things I don't know what will...

If YOU were stuck with Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg for one hour in an elevator, what will YOU tell him?

I'd tell him to keep his hands to himself.

How can small businesses today leverage social media tools to build their brand and revenues?

I think that before they do anything, they first need to create a mission statement for their social media marketing campaign. "Give and thou shall receive" is a good place to start.

After that it gets a little more complex, but the basic gist is - GO OUT THERE AND MAKE FRIENDS. That's the fundamental strategy that I use and it's working very well for me.

YOU seem to be starting a lot of things, where do YOU get all the energy to do this?

Our society has conditioned most of us to use the label "work" where it carries a negative connotation. It's a reflection of the mindset that surrounds the rat race lifestyle. Most people are simply unhappy in their jobs and work has become drudgery.

When you love something so much, breaks are no longer recreational - it is in the work where we find the recreation.

Think of these four characteristics of entrepreneurs: hearts, smarts, guts, luck. Which one are you?

I think that an entrepreneur should carry a healthy dose of each. To be an entrepreneur is by definition - a journey which will incorporate all four and more...

Who are YOUR personal heroes? Why?

I tend not to idolize people - perhaps because I know that everyone has equal potential.

People that have played a huge part in my development are Robert Kiyosaki, Stephen Covey, Ron Paul, Anthony Robbins, Eckhart Tolle and my partner, Marj Galangco.

My "heroes" are everyday people helping others through the goodness of their own heart. It's irrefutably genuine when you see support in the absense of the pursuit of money, fame or power.

What are YOU hungry for?

I'm hungry to see the result of my efforts change people's lives. Unfortunately we can't settle for Government education to breed the kind of foundations the economy needs to flourish, so my aim is to set up a schooling business aimed at educating young children on how to think objectively and really understand themselves and the world they live in.
